Some things I learned over the weekend......

Omelette eating forever. I can't help my love for them.

Dear J.Crew, why must you continue to carry so many lovely items? You really are feeding my addiction to stripes. Sincerely, me.

Aunts that you lovingly call, "Buzz" are just way cooler. My Aunt Buzz bought me sparkling water. And I love it.

My husband can rock a rain boot. He was purchasing them for work related reasons....but I'm not giving mind to that.

Sometimes you order a small blizzard from DQ and you get the equivalent of a medium instead. Joy usually follows.

Hope your weekend was well! What did you learn?

Re-purpose Friday

Nothings says "it's Friday!" like attending a very large indoor "garage sale" of sorts (or "yard sale"....I recognize there is a preference amongst the masses). There is something extremely enjoyable about mingling through rows and rows and rows of what someone in this world now considers junk. And so, I mingled with junk. And I walked out with some books and the most amazing old wooden chair. Complete with carving. All it needs is a little re-purposing and I do believe she will look quite lovely. Like most old things really are.

So, now I am resolving to spend some time sifting through my finds and gaining some ideas (thank you super creative people at Better Homes and Gardens).
Hope your Friday is off to a great start!

P.S.: those flowers are from my mommy.

P.P.S: I found these boots super, unbelievably cheap this week. And I am determined that they get use. And get to tell their story to other boots. Any ideas besides the nominal skinny jean usage? ( I want to believe they shall go with my long skirts. I do. )

Kitty's Korner

This is what kitty has been up to as of late:

1.) mom brings home merchandise in a bag. A plastic bag at that.
2.) kitty jumps onto table.
3.) kitty finds a way to squeeze her body into the confines of the bag.
4.) kitty camps out in plastic bag for much of the afternoon.
5.) kitty spies on the outside world through convenient holes located in the sides of the bag.
6.) kitty eventually abandons the plastic bag and ponders the success of the day with a nap.

Jars & Canisters....oh my!

There is just something about jars and little canisters that catch my attention. Maybe it's the endless possibilities that they represent (it's no secret: I like organization)? Maybe it's because they are begging me to fill them with something? Whatever the reason, I have found that there are remnants of these objects scattered throughout our home. So, while some of these uses may seem completely obvious, I thought I would share what my jars are up to these days.

1// this was actually a candle at one point. It's amazing what you can do with empty candle jars (I only know this because my mother-in-law is an expert at re-purposing these little jars). So, this once candle jar was meticulously removed of any wax by her and given to me and now sits in my bathroom....full of fluffy cotton balls. I reckon that the uses for these jars is endless.

2// old canning jars are some of my favorites. I enjoy incorporating some old things into my decor. And for some unknown reason I have been hoarding buttons for years now. Every time you purchase an item of clothing it almost always comes with a button (or two). So, why not display them? They are colorful and different sizes and textures. It's going to take a lot more buttons to fill my jar.....but I am well on my way.

3// the fascination with these jars continues. I found this one at a garage sale years ago. I loved the blue color. This jar has held dish washing tools, flowers, and now hand soap. Yes, the uses are endless. I just went and purchased a pump for relatively cheap and (tada!) instant hand washing enjoyment.

4// this canister has been with erick and I since the very beginning. The scribble on it (now fading) reads: "Ashton and Erick's Honeymoon Fund".
We used this little guy to throw loose change in for the sake of having some extra spending cash on our honeymoon (ages ago....). But, while we are no longer saving up for the honeymoon we still display and use this canister for our loose change. It's an easy way to store it and it's a pleasant surprise when we get to count it out for whatever little trip we are saving for.

What are your jars and canisters up to these days?

Some things I learned over the weekend...

Eating spaghetti is no easy task. Sitting directly across from someone eating spaghetti is no easier. More amusing though. Good thing my brother-in-law is a pro at spaghetti consumption.

There are still flowers blooming in Michigan. Which means spring is still happening. Which means I am still enjoying the explosion of green on the trees that is taking place here in the mitten.

I take a lot of pictures of food. And I don't care who knows it. See below for evidence of this matter.

My husband likes to roll his pants. And my husband looks pretty darn good with his pants rolled.

I don't enjoy taking mirror photos.

And I love sparkling water. In a glass bottle.

Hoping your weekend was wonderful! What are some of your revelations?

Team Rain

I think rainy days get a bad representation. That's right. I am officially on "team rain."
And it's a good thing too. Because it rained all day long in our area of the mitten. All day.
And minus the fact that I can't count on my hair to do anything presentable on a day like today ( that's why we have hair ties people) it was an enjoyable rainy day.
Hence this next set of rambles that proves certain things are more fun when it's raining:

1. Drinking coffee, consuming pumpkin bread, and listening to jazz music with a good friend just seems to make even more sense.

2. Ummm wearing rain boots? That is only acceptable on such days. And let me tell you, I fully appreciated the notion that I could step in a puddle and walk away untouched.

3. Cozy fires. Cozy fires. Everyone wants a cozy fireplace on a day like today.
It's so cozy. That's why.

4. Kitty puts in a word for a rainy day by making it look cute. And chilling in bags.

5. Lighting. Think what you will but when the world is grey outside who wants blinding light inside? Soft glow. That is what I am talking about. More enjoyable when there is rain outside.

What are your "team rain" picks?
