This weekend...

...we enjoyed the cool Michigan weather. That's right, I am still in that stage of appreciating the cold and snow. Hopefully it sticks around until Spring.

I also got the bookcase my father-in-law has been building for me. It is a lovely piece that will get a lot of use. I am a slight organization maven and having all these shelves just adds to that!

Lastly, Erick and I enjoyed a Sunday full of worship and fellowship at our church. I was reminded yesterday of how blessed we are to know the people that we do. Friendship is a great gift.
Hoping your weekend was relaxing and full of fun as well!

Visiting Traverse City, Michigan Pt.2

Once you have stuffed yourself with all the delicious food options that Traverse City has to offer, you could always take a scenic drive. And northern Michigan has plenty of options!

We have enjoyed driving out on Old Mission Peninsula many times. At the very tip you will find Old Mission Point where you can park your car and explore the beach area along with a historic lighthouse. It really is lovely even in the dead of winter.

Plus, the drive up the peninsula allows you to take in views from the bay and some scenery that looks like it is right out of the French countryside (we land on the 45th parallel).

That point is further made as you can visit many of the local wineries that are present on the peninsula and in the northern Michigan area.

Just don't forget your camera!

Visiting Traverse City, Michigan Pt.1

I don't think that it is any secret that I love my state. I do. I love Michigan. Our state has a lot to offer and I am proud to call the mitten home.

With that said, one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan is Traverse City. My husband and I (along with many family members) have spent countless hours enjoying this diverse city. We have planned many family trips to the area exploring the outdoors in the greater Grand Traverse area along with our usual favorite spots.

After our most recent trip this past week I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite places in Michigan. As my family's "Itinerary Developer" I'm passing on the love to you.

1.) One of our favorite places to visit is the Grand Traverse Pie Company. Established in TC and growing throughout the state. This place is cozy. I'm talking fireplace and all. But, if the fireplace doesn't do it for you, there is their pie. It rivals your Grandma's creation. Personally, I love their cherry pie (TC is the cherry capitol after all). The perfect combination of sweet and tart. Don't be fooled! This place has more than just unbelievable pie. You can get a combination of sandwiches, soups, and salads. Not to mention, some pretty awesome chicken pot pie (my husband's favorite). So, put on your cozy sweater, grab your favorite book, and go park in front of their fireplace with a warm piece of pie.

2.) So, you like Pizza? Well, if you go to TC you better check out Pangea's Pizza Pub located in the heart of downtown Traverse City. Awesome pizza. The sauce, the cheese, the toppings = delicious. Great atmosphere. Plus, they serve a locally made pop (or soda....depending on where you are located) that is awesome. I look forward to getting a glass every time I visit. You must go.

3.) We all need breakfast in the morning. Or we get hangry (hungry leads to angry which leads to hangry). So, you might as well just head on over to The Omelette Shop before things get ugly. We always go to the one located in downtown TC. This place is tiny and cute and gives off a cozy diner vibe. And if you love eggs.....well it is heaven. You can choose from a bazillion different types of omelette combinations or make your own. Yes, this a place where the coffee flows freely and the overall smell in the air is cinnamon rolls. My last word of advice to you: try their cinnamon raisin bread (drizzled in frosting) to top off that omelette.

Picture Wall

I have been wanting to create a picture wall for some time now. I love the idea of compiling a bunch of random frames together on one wall. So, after staring at the end result in Pottery Barn magazines for many months.....I gave in.
I compiled some favorite photos, snippets from trips and our wedding, and framed them accordingly.

I found it useful to compile my design on the floor first, laying out all the frames the way I would like them on the wall. I am a visual person and I had to see it before jumping in.

I started in the exact center of the wall I was working on and moved the frames out from there. A measuring tape and level are an absolute must for this. And in my case, a husband.

For those frames that are more like shadow boxes: tape, backing paper, and the occasional trim of the picture becomes necessary.

I am happy with the end result which allows me to add on to the wall as I collect frames. Plus, it's a good way to display all those special pieces in one place and have it make sense.

Happy V-day!

Hope you are enjoying your day by consuming large amounts of chocolate or watching sappy movies. I plan on watching "Sleepless in Seattle" shamelessly this evening with the hubs.
Part of me wishes that February 14th came around more often so I would have an excuse to eat chocolate covered strawberries all the time....not so sure how that would work out in the end though.
Have a lovely evening spending it with someone you love!

Thank You

Erick and I are in the throes of packing. Boxes are piling up. I am pacing around our place about a hundred times a day staring at stuff. Kitty has yet to realize that she is in for another long and tedious car ride.
I have found that moving, no matter where, is an unsettling process.

Regardless of that emotion, I am so very grateful. Erick and I have been reminded during this time of how good our God is. And one of the ways we have recognized that is through His people. Back in Michigan. And here in South Carolina. We want to express our thanks publicly to all of you.

Thank you for your prayers, words of encouragement, prodding, pushing, check-ups, phone calls, letters, friendship, and giving. We are so humbled by the love that has shown through all of you towards us.

To those here in South Carolina: thank you for your friendship and opening your doors to us. You have been a huge source of comfort to us while we have been away from home. And now you all need to come visit the north...I am sure that I have convinced some of you!

I am reminded of this verse as we have seen the body of Christ act out His love in different parts of this country:
Philippians 1:3-6.

Thank you.

Put on some lips!

I will admit, I love lipgloss. My addiction started early. I remember the first tinted gloss that I owned. I would slather it on, wait ten minutes, and repeat. Never mind that the color was close to a purple metallic. I have since learned to appreciate what a little lip color can do,not only for your overall complexion, but as an added accessory. And my attention lately has turned from "the gloss"to "the stick".

I've had some inquiries as to what colors have been on my lips as of late. So, I thought I would share my top four favorite colors that I have tried. Mind you, my motto will always be that less is indeed more. So, I dab my color lightly starting out and go from there.

I love that I can get a lot of color out of lipstick while using a small amount. My two favorites that I am obsessed with at the moment:
1.) "Love Test" Rouge N.R11 by Sephora
2.) "Ravish Me Red" N.654 by Revlon

These have an appearance of a gloss from their packaging...but they hold a lot of color.

3.) NYX (soft matte lip cream) in "San Paulo"
4.) "Coral Reef" super lustrous gloss N. 170 by Revlon.

There is something about lipstick that seems classic and timeless...but also a lot of fun when experimenting with different colors. Happy dabbing!

Kitty's Korner

A siamese lives here. Her name is kitty. Kitty leads a simple life that amuses her owners. So much so, that her mom likes to take pictures of her doing whatever it is Kitty does. This is what Kitty has been up to as of late:

1.) Window staring. Kitty wants to make sure the moving truck will fit.
2.) Reading up on the new fashion trends.
3.) Trying out various boxes for size, fit, and taste for the trip back home.
