At a Glance....

Our first full week of classes has come to an end. Yes, we made it.
I am honestly more tired of the "busy work" that goes along with moving than anything else.
So, this first week of classes with all of it's "syllabus shock" has had little impact on my emotional state. Thank you, busy work, for making me immune to six (plus) pages (times 3) of projects, expectations, readings, and whatever else is sprinkled in there. For good measure, of course.

In non-related news: I got a job! At the college. And I am feeling pretty good about that. God answered my specific prayer. And I am grateful.

Erick and I have been driving around a lot as well. Within the logical means of our gas tank. Trying to take in our surroundings and assimilate as much as possible.

Every time I turn around....

...I am reminded of home. I wonder if I am the only one that finds the simplest things are the ones that spark the most memory, which in return sparks the most emotion. Here are some things that rendered me helpless the last couple days:

1. Hearing the song "On Jordan's Stormy Banks" at my brother's house. I was instantly back at Grace singing and playing music with people I love.

2. Drinking Hazelnut coffee at "Cool Beans" downtown. For some odd reason all I could think about was fall and my mom with every sip that I took. I drank the whole cup.

3. Visiting Barnes and Noble on this very Saturday. I thought of the last five years with regular Saturday morning visits from my parents which included regular runs to the Barnes and Noble Cafe'. Husband and I shared a chocolate chunk cookie in remembrance. I was too shy to ask them to warm it up though.

4. Some kid at college gave Erick a whole package of snickers bars at the CIU fair yesterday. Needless to say, candy bars don't stand a chance in Carolina weather. So, we carefully placed them in the freezer to get them back to their original state. I ate one today. All frozen. And I thought of my dad and how he (like myself) likes things really cold. He has been known to stuff candy bars in the freezer for later consumption.

5. Hearing anything Hillsong on my i-pod. "Search my Heart" pretty much only lends itself to thinking about drums. Which turns into drummers. Which turns into brothers. Which turns into my brother (in-law). It's a vicious cycle.

Anywho...this list of random connections could go on and on....but I think I've made my point. What is that saying? Oh yes, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder."

I would like to officially dub that statement as valid. Very valid.

It has been awhile since I have updated. Unfortunately, deciding to pack up one's life in a couple months and move to a different state doesn't actually lend itself to having extra time.
The husband and I are finally here in sunny South Carolina. We arrived on Monday: in spite of the moving truck that gave us plenty of "intense moments" as we drove through the mountains. Eeek.
With that, we have been busy with unpacking boxes and trying to stuff all of our stuff in every nook and crany of this pad. I can look back now and be grateful for the two garage sales I had this summer. Yes, two.
As we run around an unfamiliar place and do all that "stuff" that goes along with moving....we have had our emotional moments. To say the least.
We miss the familiar. We miss our families. We miss friends. Transition is never easy. It is uncomfortable. And awkward. And it pokes at us in odd ways. I think transition makes us realize what we really miss.
So, we are transitioning and missing. All at the same time. But, it's ok. Because we have a God that holds tomorrow and no matter where we go...He is there.

A list of bliss

With all the negativity and sometimes downright depressing messages out there...I thought it would be slightly logical to compose a list of things that I am just downright happy about right now. It's good to consider the little things.

1. Iced Coffee. The obsession continues. I wake up in the morning feeling quite cheerful with the image of iced goodness in my head.

2. The Beyond Youth Conference! I am excited to see what God is going to do this weekend. Not to mention I am excited to be playing music with some of the loveliest people on the planet.

3. Knitting. My mother recently taught me. And even though my "square" is a tangled mess of yarn at some points...I am smitten with the process.

4. The promise of fall fashion. GET excited people. I am thrilled about the different textures and colors that are making a show this season.

5. Receiving packages. I don't even care if the contents of the box are not for me...the fact that I am holding a sturdy card board creation with my address on it is enough.

Those are some of the "little things" that have me giddy right now. How about you?
